Dealing with A Press Gone Pyscho? Drinking Helps…

The rise of “we can fact check your ass” pixel slingers caused much consternation, vexation, and unchecked contempt among residents of the Fourth Estate. (sidenote: read that whole page from Instapundit’s archive; nothing ever changes, eh?) Long before then I’d given up trusting large chunks of what I’ve come to call the Make Believe Media (MBM), after watching them get too many things wrong about subjects where I had first hand knowledge.

Back in 1973 our local daily, the Staten Island Advance (aka: “the Retreat”; “The Fingerboard Follies”), managed to get wrong the location and injury suffered  the night I was hit by a car while participating in an epic engagement of “Itchyball Wars.” The Retreat: a fractured skull on Seaver Avenue; Reality: a mangled right foot in front of my building at 235 Jefferson Street. Later, while working at COMEX, I’d see “business reporters” offer explanations for market machinations that I knew–knew–they’d pulled straight outta their asses, because I was standing there in the pits watching the day go down.

I wrote it off back then; it was “back of the book” stuff, small beer, likely reported by some recent J-School grad too wet behind the ears to know any better.

Now, the only things I trust from those bozos are box scores. Everything they cover (and what they don’t cover) is drawn solely inside political lines.  When a theater review is used to attack a once widely-lauded playwright, things are so far gone, they ain’t ever coming back. The malfeasance has become so expected, so normal, that in the case of the Old Gray Lady, it spawned a regular headline here on this site and over on my Facebook page.

I have more faith in guys like the Ewok Leader of the Moron Horde, and the ineffably brutal Stacy McCain. They offer either ridicule, or “this reeks of bullshit,” observations of the MBM’s coverage of the shifting Marathon bombings’ landscape. When he’s wearing his reporter’s fedora, Stacy sticks to facts, leaving the “contextual” crap to MBM hacks.

The Fourth Estate’s coverage of the Boston Marathon bombings is reprehensible, politically correct insanity. Lucky for me that I enjoy imbibing elephant killing levels of alcohol the occasional adult beverage. While partaking in that daily dousing pastime after the bombs went off, I was pretty damn sure the perp(s) would turn out to be driven by Islamic Jihad. It was the only conclusion that made any sense. The MBM would have none of it. For them, suspicion should obviously fall on one of those bitter clinging tax haters found in the Tea Party community. Drink!

Now we know who did it, and it ain’t some Bubba from Buttfuck, Arkansas. With the surviving Tsarnaev in custody, the MBM have switched gears, bickering over the “Miranda rights” and “enemy combatant” status of the accused. It won’t matter; intel is being exploited and the mountain of evidence is growing. Soon they’ll have enough to dump the surviving Tsarnaev in a forever hole.

While they can no longer ignore radical Islam, they can try to downplay it:

“Islam might have had secondary role in Boston attacks”

An emerging portrait of the brothers accused in the Boston Marathon bombings suggested that the older of the two, Tamerlan Tsarnaev, embraced a more radical form of Islam in recent years.

But scholars cautioned Friday against concluding that the Tsarnaevs’ motives were purely religious. Tamerlan Tsarnaev, who was killed in a firefight with police early Friday morning, appeared to sympathize with Islamic extremists agitating for Chechen independence from Russia…..

“The story that seems to be developing here is more along the lines of standard alienated man goes out and commits atrocities, much more like the school shootings we’ve seen than organized Islamic insurgency,” said Yuri Zhukov, a fellow at the Program on Global Society and Security at Harvard University’s Weatherhead Center who studies extremism in the Caucasus.

Just like those Tea Party bastards, AMIRITE?! (see related, snark drenched post at Powerline)

In the matter of Tsarnaev the Younger, CNN seems also to be trying to discount its role:

Boston Marathon bombing suspect Dzhokhar Tsarnaev has told investigators his older brother Tamerlan was the driving force behind last week’s attack and that no international terrorist groups were behind them, a U.S. government source said Monday.

Preliminary interviews with Tsarnaev indicate the two brothers fit the classification of self-radicalized jihadists, the source said. Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, wounded and held in a Boston hospital, has said his brother — who was killed early Friday — wanted to defend Islam from attack, according to the source.

You just wait. By the end of the week we’ll probably be seeing ‘Dzhokhar as victim’ pieces popping all over the place:

“An impressionable youth swept up in his Svengali-like older brother’s wake.”

Meanwhile, in America’s Hat, the Mounties thwarted a terror attack:

(Reuters) – Canadian police said on Monday they had arrested and charged two men with plotting to derail a Toronto-area passenger train in an operation they say was backed by al Qaeda elements in Iran.

“Had this plot been carried out, it would have resulted in innocent people being killed or seriously injured,” Royal Canadian Mounted Police official James Malizia told reporters in Toronto. The RCMP said it had arrested Chiheb Esseghaier, 30, of Montreal, and Raed Jaser, 35, of Toronto in connection with the plot, which authorities said was not linked to the Boston Marathon bombings, which killed three and injured more than 200 people last week.

Riight. Nothing in common; nothing that “links” these two events….

Drink up! Maybe you, too, won’t see the elephant in the room.
