Who in God’s Name Voted for Jessie Orosco?

National Baseball Hall of Fame and MuseumImage via WikipediaHall of Fame Finally Welcomes Rice; Rickey Waltzes in.

Rickey Henderson, baseball’s all-time stolen-bases and runs-scored leader, and power-hitting outfielder Jim Rice have been elected to the National Baseball Hall of Fame by the Baseball Writers’ Association of America in balloting verified by Ernst & Young. They will be inducted into the Hall on July 26 at the Clark Sports Center in Cooperstown, N.Y.

Henderson and Rice will be honored along with former New York Yankees and Cleveland Indians second baseman Joe Gordon, who was elected last month by the Veterans Committee. The July 26 Induction Ceremony will also include the presentation of the Ford C. Frick Award for broadcasting to Tony Kubek and the J.G. Taylor Spink Award for baseball writing to Nick Peters.

Monday’s “Stupidest Git in Print” Nominee

Despite the famous 1984 Super Bowl commercial, Apple may be Big Brother after all. Recently applied for patent seeks to move a web-cam invisibly behind iMac and MacBook computer displays. Based on what I have seen from devious / creative hackers, this seems like the perfect opportunity to turn the spy technology against the user.

Despite 1984 commercials, Apple may be Big Brother after all

Of course, since Apple is not as vulnerable to viruses as Microsoft products, I am not nearly as scared as I could be, but just imagine the potential if this gets in the wrong hands! I know people who are afraid of web cams in general, but one embedded behind the screen that you cannot physically disconnect tends to give me the willies.

Sweetheart? You have to be the faggiest Ph.D I have ever seen display abject stupidity upon my computer’s screen. Have you never heard of “control settings,” where the owner decides what functions his/her computer will automatically perform when he/she fires up the puppy?

I tote an Apple iBookG4 pretty much everywhere I go. It has an embedded microphone which could, if I let it, record every sound occurring in its environs….

So I don’t turn it on unless I WANT to record. Same deal with an embedded webcam: it won’t record something unless you tell it to record something.
