Nat Hentoff Laid Off from Venerable Village Voice Newspaper

Nat Hentoff is a treasure of NYC journalism. He was the ONLY reason I have kept an eye on what goes on at the Village Voice for more than a few recent years. In the early nineties, when I found myself editing a college rag that was under assault by the school administration, I called him in search of guidance and he not only took the call, he said, “This is how you nail them,” and gave me a playbook and the names of pro-bono lawyers who were ready to go to war.

A couple years later, I found myself working at VV as a Mac Geek, and searched Hentoff out. His first words after the fawning, “THANK YOU, DUDE!” obligitory introduction: “Yeah, Staten Island. I remember; Did you kill them?”

They just “cost-cut” themselves into oblivion.
