Stupidity? Thine Name is “Nancy Pelosi” [Updated]

It seems that even ABC’s George Stephanopoulos is getting fed up with Congressional Democrats blocking efforts by Republicans to expand offshore oil drilling in order to bring down gas prices.

On Sunday’s “This Week,” Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D-Cali.) was asked repeatedly why she refuses to allow this issue to come to a vote.

The look of disgust on Stephanopoulos’s face as Pelosi mumbled non sequitur after non sequitur was almost more telling of his sense of frustration than the number of times he asked virtually the same question: “Why won’t you permit a straight up or down vote?”

NewsBusters.org has a transcript and link to the video. It is friggin’ frightening to think this ditz is in charge of the House of Representatives, and a couple of failed heartbeats from the Oval Office. She goes on and on about tapping into the Strategic Petroleum Reserve (SPR), seemingly ignorant to what the first word in that acronym actually means, and oblivious to both public opinion and simple reality.

Tapping the SPR wouldn’t actually do much to affect the price at the pump, because those millions of barrels would have to immediately be replaced; the whole point of the SPR is to counter any potential interruption in supply; it was created in response to the OPEC oil embargo in 1973. To suggest that Pres. Bush is just sitting on that oil for no good reason is asinine; to demand we drain it while refusing to allow her fellow Congress critters to even vote on expanding access to domestic sources is borderline treasonous.

UPDATE: TAR (sands) BABY?:

OBAMA’S STATEMENT: “The reserve should only be used in the event of an emergency, and that we shouldn’t be tapping the reserve to provide a small, short-term decrease in gas prices.” — August 31, 2005

EXPIRATION DATE: Today: “Democrat Barack Obama called today for tapping the nation’s strategic oil reserves to help drive down gasoline prices, a shift from his previous position on the issue.”

All Barack Obama statements come with an expiration date. All of them.
