Air America Idiot Update

Haven’t done one of these in a while:
The numbers are in…
The NYC Arbitron Abbattior 03/31/08:

WABC (Rush, Hannity): 3.3 (.1 gain); 10th overall
WOR (O’Reilly, Savage): 2.3 (.1 gain); 18th overall
WWRL (Air Idiot): 0.6; (.1 gain) 32nd overall

In other Air Idiot news, the netlet’s “flagship” station here in NYC has, for all intent and purpose, tossed Air Idiot’s programming under the bus in favor of other sources of revenue/ratings. (Me and hashfanatic ruminated over this the other day at the tail end of this post’s comments.)

“Craig” over on the New York Radio Message Board (who doesn’t seem to be aware that the Green family no longer controls AAR) can’t believe what he’s seeing happen, and has a whole lot of “WTF are they doing?!”

My favorite bit: “And what’s with Rachel Maddow? Many on this board say they like her. I like her. But she clearly is pre-recording her show in the afternoon so she can be on MSNBC as a commentator in the evening. And she continues to use words like “Live” and “Live interview” on her radio show when we can see her on our TV sets at the same time on MSNBC.”

It’ll be interesting to see just how long AAR will be able to keep their hold on a piece of WWRL’s program schedule, allowing them to claim a NYC station as their “flagship.” Randi Rhodes is the only AAR programming that goes out live Monday through Friday; whatever crap they may have over the weekend doesn’t matter, because who the hell listens to talk radio on the weekend? If Rachel Maddow did not have her MSNBC gig–like Ingraham’s appearances on FOX giving WABC a similar (shitty) reason to keep her in their lineup–playing a tape delayed show would make no sense at all.

How can you call a station your home base when you only have one real show broadcasted on its airwaves? And if you are Randi Rhodes, how long do you keep yourself attached to this albatross? I’m fairly certain she could get a deal with some syndication outfit like Ed Schultz’s, that could likely get her show wider distribution.
