Captain Obvious Reports…

Corzine Was Running Like a Bastard with His Back to the Wall

The SUV carrying Gov. Jon S. Corzine was traveling about 91 mph moments before it crashed, Superintendent of State Police Col. Rick Fuentes said Tuesday.

I know… I should not make fun of him….

Oh, who’m I kidding? I’M FROM NEW YORK!

it’s called a seat belt, Sherlock; you should have gotten into it.

oh, jeez….
“The mentally impaired driver of the red pickup truck who triggered the chain-reaction accident, Kenny Potts, 20, has said he was unaware of his role in the wreck. He has not been charged.

“I love to be loud and drink as much as I can,” the Staten Island native writes on his MySpace page, adding that his interests are fishing, bowling, cooking and “nothing but GIRLS.”

Where’s the mook live now?

About Viginia Tech [Updated]

I’ve been out of pocket for most of the time since Sunday–doing all those fun-fun-fun, real life, “meatspace” things (like wrestling Noah’s nemesis who disastrously sloshed his bad self into my basement), and haven’t yet come up with anything coherent, since the facts on the ground have been pretty slippery.

I don’t want to jump in without having some facts in my hands. Then, and only then, will I leap off my barstool and pontificate; hopefully not sounding too much the fool. At this point, however, I’m pretty sure all the categories I’ve tagged to this post are gonna come into play.

I don’t need to say anything, right now. But hear this:

Please realize that I am licensed to carry a concealed handgun in the commonwealth of Virginia, and do so on a regular basis. However, because I am a Virginia Tech student, I am prohibited from carrying at school because of Virginia Tech’s student policy, which makes possession of a handgun an expellable offense, but not a prosecutable crime. [which means “won’t hold up under commonwealth law”]

I had entrusted my safety, and the safety of others to the police. In light of this, there are a few things I wish to point out.

First, I never want to have my safety fully in the hands of anyone else, including the police.

Second, I considered bringing my gun with me to campus, but did not due to the obvious risk of losing my graduate career, which is ridiculous because had I been shot and killed, there would have been no graduate career for me anyway.

Third, and most important, I am trained and able to carry a concealed handgun almost anywhere in Virginia and other states that have reciprocity with Virginia, but cannot carry where I spend more time than anywhere else because, somehow, I become a threat to others when I cross from the town of Blacksburg onto Virginia Tech’s campus.

If there is so many as ONE, licensed CCW resident of the Commonwealth among the dead, who had their gun stripped from them when they entered what is supposedly considered “protected” public property, the leaders of this institution have committed a far more egregious sin than that DA did down in Durham.

The Commonwealth afforded them their rights; the collegiate “know it alls” tore them asunder. As a public institution they had NO FUCKING RIGHT to tell a student like this one that he must relinquish said rights, as wholly recognized by the Commonwealth of Virginia, at the Virginia Tech threshold. Unless they were a private institution, they just didn’t have the authority, period, to write their own set of rules.

They would never have dared tell this guy he couldn’t drive a car on their property, because they didn’t like he had a Class One license.

Of all of the emotions and thoughts that were running through my head that morning, the most overwhelming one was of helplessness.

That feeling of helplessness has been difficult to reconcile because I knew I would have been safer with a proper means to defend myself.

I would also like to point out that when I mentioned to a professor that I would feel safer with my gun, this is what she said to me, “I would feel safer if you had your gun.”
