And So It Begins…

I’ve had a couple of friends ask me what I thought about the Democrat Party gaining control of Capitol Hill. My basic answer has been: not so much, yet. Nothing is really gonna change–or probably get done–until they actually take control. Even then, it’s gonna be “wait and see” because a lot of the candidates that put the Dems over the top won their races–in many cases by very slim margins–by tacking to the right of the Democrat’s base and hierarchy.

Personally, except for national security (and the Republican House’s stance on illegal immigration), I haven’t seen a whole lot of intrinsic difference between the way either party comport themselves. The Republicans got their asses handed to them because they were willing to spend money, and bloat the government in the process, just as easily as any “tax and spend” Dem; they just didn’t include the “tax” part of the equation. The Dems won because they screamed “Iraq! Iraq! Iraq!” and promised “change”… without defining what that word really means.

Between now and then though, the MSM are going to be forced to confront all the Dem leaders, and newly minted Committee Chairs-in-waiting, about what their agendas will be when they are forced to actually do something other than snipe from the sidelines. When those questions and interviews start rolling across the wires I’ll be more inclined to opine.

In the meantime, though, the Moonbats ain’t gonna wait; they want their pounds of flesh and they want it now!

“Donald Rumsfeld’s resignation is a step in the right direction,” said Anthony D. Romero, ACLU Executive Director. “Rumsfeld is responsible for the torture and abuse of detainees in U. S. military custody and must be held accountable for the failures that occurred on his watch. He has placed the blame on junior military members and has been nothing but derelict in his duty. Congress must initiate an immediate and exhaustive investigation into his six-year-long record of unlawful activity, violations of the rule of law and complicity in the executive branch abuse of power.”

Stop the ACLU: ACLU Applauds Rumsfeld’s Resignation, Calls for Immediate Investigation Into Dereliction of Duty

Off we go into a new direction for America. You know we are off on the wrong foot towards the wrong direction when the changes taking place are cheered by the ACLU! If President Bush thinks nixing Rumsfeld is a way to finding common ground with the newly empowered Democrats and will be enough to satisfy the hunger of the left, he should think again. The ACLU, no doubt speaking the mind of the new majority, want to see his head on a fancier platter.

That’s going to be what I’m watching and listening for when the likes of Pelosi, Reid, Crazy Charley Rangel and Crazier CrankBastard Conyers get asked what they are gonna do: will they follow the Moonbat talking points? Will they ignore the chance to proffer an agenda that moves things forward, or immediately slam into payback mode and tie DC in knots with an incessant skein of hearings meant solely as hyperpartisan pandering?

If they do, they’ll be shown the door in November 2008.

UPDATE: Cuz’n Chris interviews Rummy.
