Katrina Aftermath: Nagin Puts The Big Easy on the Auction Block

Mayor: New Orleans will seek aid from other nations

I know he’s facing some heat in his re-election campaign, afraid he’s gonna get tossed aside in favor of a member of Louisiana’s version of the Kennedy clan (minus, it seems, the venality and debauchery), but I don’t see how saying something like this is gonna win him many votes:

“France can take Treme. The king of Jordan can take the Lower Ninth Ward,” he said, referring to two of the city’s neighborhoods.

First the “chocolate city” nonsense, and now this? I think he’s suffering from early stage Shindareen Syndrome, in which someone gets a taste of the national media spotlight, finds that the standard Warholian serving just isn’t enough to sate their celebrity lust, and keeps shoving their face into the trough until everyone justs gets sick of them. In Nagin’s case, the voters in New Orleans are gonna realize that instead of another crack at being their mayor, he’s really barely cut out to work anywhere better than here.
