Today’s Idiot

Is Newsday’s Martin Johnson:

With a stage positioned at about second base, the stadium provided a fantastic vista, the bridges over the East River to the left and the Manhattan skyline to the right.

It’s the other way around, you schmuck!

Scroll down to the last picture here. That’s the view you see when looking beyond second base into right-centerfield and out into the harbor. The Manhattan skyline is there behind the ferry, the (bridgeless until you get up to the GWB) river to the left is the Hudson. The river and the bridges Johnson claims he was looking at are to the right of Manhattan…hence the name EAST RIVER!

You’d have to be looking back from somewhere a ways up north on the East River–in other words, nowhere near Staten Island–for that river and those bridges to be on the left of whatever planet he was on when he saw his “fantastic vista.” When a reporter is such a clueless dolt when it comes to the basic geography of New York Harbor, what credibility could possibly be given his concert review? Whether he was even there is a dubious proposition.
