He May Be a Hard Ass,

But He’s Our Hard Ass. (Well, at least he not a DumbAss like the clowns in Germany and Kerryville.)

Air America Idiot Update

The numbers are in:
The NYC Arbitron Abbattior (10/18/04):
WABC (Rush, Hannity): 4.1 (up from 3.9) Ranked 7th overall (unchanged)
WOR (O’Reilly, Savage) : 2.2 (down from 2.4) Ranked 19th (unchanged)
WLIB (Air Idiot): 1.4 (up from 1.3) Ranked 23rd (unchanged)

This is confusing. With the campaign madness in full force, Air Idiot, overall, doesn’t seem to be going anywhere in the NYC market, while WABC is strengthening its position, with its morning team of Curtis & Kuby bludgeoning Imus, (who both just get slapped silly by Howard Stern).

Head to head, in the 25-54 demographic advertisers lust after, PosterBoy is showing strong numbers but still trailing Limbaugh.

About the only reason I can make out of all of this is that New Jersey, a huge chunk of which, if not all, falls into the NYC market, is really a battleground state now. Well, that and the obvious: Air Idiot has reached its peak and just doesn’t have the talent to grow any further. Other than Franken, none of their other shows can draw and hold an audience beyond the True Believers they’ve had since Day One.

Once the election is over, either way, it’s a good bet that Air Idiot’s audience will evaporate. WABC’s hosts realize they can’t just preach to the choir, and regularly take callers who disagree with them. Air Idiot’s on air staff doesn’t understand that basic reality.
