Air America Idiot Update

Inner City to its Black Broadcasters: Get Out of Whitey’s Way
It’s now officially a pattern. When they first hit the airwaves in NYC, Air Idiot’s programming shoved minority programming aside, which resulted in absolutely no change in the station’s ratings, although I’d imagine the racial demographics are quite different. In today’s online edition of the Philadelphia Daily News (subscription req’d), we see them at it again:

WHAT/1340-AM, General Manager Kernie Anderson expects some backlash from the station’s African-American audience over new hosts Al Franken and Randi Rhodes, but is confident the hosts will mesh with the beliefs of most listeners.

The two are part of the liberal Air America network, which broadcasts from the New York home Inner City Broadcasting, parent company of WHAT.

Starting today, Franken’s on from noon to 3 p.m. and Rhodes from 3 to 7 p.m.

Inner City touts its broadcasting mission as targeting the inner city, African-American community. I am sure their Philly station’s listeners are just gonna soak up the insights of Minnesota snow white Al Franken, and crazy Florida trailer park cracker Randi Rhodes. The station’s GM, Anderson, can be ignored in his pronouncement of the new programming’s ability to mesh, since he’s not even based in Philly, but oversees seemingly all of Inner City’s stations from his home base in NYC, where they pulled the switch the first time.

Since the change to Air Idiot did nothing, overall, to improve WLIB’s ratings in NYC, the only conclusion is the change in demographics has generated improved advertising revenue, so Inner City is going to shove some more African-American broadcasting aside to try and get some of the Philly market’s Blue Eyed Soul, liberal dough.
Yo, Chuck D? Guess that “fight the power!” crap don’t fly when the Benjamins pile high. You just be sure those checks clear, bro, while that nigga in the mirra looks more and more like an oreo.
