Steyn Strikes Again

Kerry: strange, stuck-up… and stupid

How cocooned from reality do you have to be to think you can transform one of the most divisive periods in American history ñ in which you were largely responsible for much of the divisiveness ñ into a sappy, happy-clappy, soft-focus patriotic blur without anybody objecting? Most Vietnam veterans of my acquaintance loathe John Kerry, and, if he wasn’t aware of that, he’s too out of it to be President.

His campaign’s not much better, when the strategists are deciding appearing on “The Daily Show” and acting like Ed McMahon is how you handle your first televised sitdown since the SwiftVet storm started slashing your sails to smithereens. What’s the matter, John John hasn’t learned the script you’re prepping him with before he heads over to Black Rock for a “60 Minutes” mea culpa moment, a la Clinton?

And about “The Daily Show.” Okay, little Jersey Jonny Stewart can be funny, sure. But he’s also got a large piece of dumbass stuck between his ears:

When the conversation turned serious, Stewart asked Kerry how he would counter Bush’s ability in debates to turn issues into a choice between his position and the opposition.

Memo to Dumbass: THAT’S WHAT A DEBATE IS ABOUT, YOU MORON! YOU DON’T COUNTER IT, YOU DO THE SAME BLOODY THING! WHOEVER IS BETTER WINS!

I keep reading about how polls show that many “young demogrpahic” voters are getting their news fix from his show. No, you dolts. They are ignoring the news and turning to a place they can get a laugh, like when you quiz them about something like this. These are people who grew up knowing all about polls. I’ll bet cash money a lot of your respondents are yanking your chain.

If This Holds Up …

And Drudge hasn’t just gotten hosed by some malicious prankster, Kerry is a goner:
Kerry Calls a SwiftVet Friend for Help

KERRY: “Why are all these swift boat guys opposed to me?”

BRANT: “You should know what you said when you came back, the impact it had on the young sailors and how it was disrespectful of our guys that were killed over there.”

[Brant had two men killed in battle.]

KERRY: “When we dedicated swift boat one in ’92, I said to all the swift guys that I wasn’t talking about the swifties, I was talking about all the rest of the veterans.”
(emphasis mine)

Kerry probably just lost “all the rest of the veterans” who weren’t in the Navy, considered this a swabbie’s skirmish, and were inclined to give him the benefit of the doubt.

I don’t know who this Brant fellow is, but I cannot believe there is anyone who is going to be able to convince O’Neill to back off unless Kerry drops out of the race, period. Which is never gonna happen.

(I also think O’Neill has some sort of nuclear bomb sitting in his pocket, something that isn’t in the book, that he’s gonna drop on Kerry’s head sometime in October. Surprise! )
