Air America Idiot Update

CEO, Operations VP Step Down
It took less then a month for the rats to begin disembarking from the increasingly creaky ship. The Chicago Tribune reports:

Mark Walsh, the former AOL executive and Democratic National Committee operative who announced the network’s launch to much fanfare five months ago, said Monday that he has stepped down as chief executive officer.

Separately, the network confirmed that Dave Logan, Air America’s vice president for operations and programming, has been replaced.

With their temporary return to WTTD-950AM in Chicago scheduled to end on Friday, this news is another nail in the coffin. Walsh was part of the group that created Air Idiot, and his status as a DNC apparatchick signals that the Party realizes the party’s over. While Walsh says he will maintain a “limited relationship” with the network as a senior adviser, losing him is not going to do anything to assure potential affiliates or advertisers that this crew of clowns has a shelf life worth investing in. Air Idiot Chairman Evan Cohen tried to spin the departure of Walsh as a normal part of the station’s evolution:

Cohen credited Walsh with building up the network from scratch, but said that now that it is up and running, “Mark didn’t want to grind it out day-to-day.”

You’ve got to be kidding me, Evan. “Up and running”??? You’ve been broadcasting for less then a month; you’ve lost your stations in the second and third largest radio markets, and Logan–responsible for programming and operations–was one of the few adults on the payroll:

As a former programmer for WLUP-FM 97.9 in Chicago, WNEW-FM in New York and KFOG-FM in San Francisco, Logan was one of a handful of experienced radio professionals affiliated with Air America.

And his duties are going to be assumed by “Unfiltered” co-host Lizz Winstead…and your lawyer? Just because Winstead was involved with “The Daily Show” doesn’t mean she knows jack about radio. According to some nameless Air Idiot flunkie, Logan “wasn’t a good fit.” Damn straight, skippy! He was a pro, something Air Idiot lacks, whether in the executive suite or drooling into the microphones.

I think I better head off to The Silver Shark Lounge and tell Mark to change the cutoff day for the Dead Pool contest…these clowns aren’t looking like they’ll last through the month of May.
