Glenn Reynolds (aka: Instapundit; “Blender of Puppies”; “Hunter of Hobos”, etc.) likes to talk about something called a preference cascade. Basically, it’s a point in time when people realize something they personally think, but do not publicly say, is a shared by many others, and this realization releases the previously unspoken, shared thought from the self-censorship jail into the public square. At that point in time–to use another Insty favorite–”Things that can’t continue, won’t.”
I think the Make Believe Media (MBM) is staring a preference cascade square in the face. A majority of Americans are not buying their bullshit anymore:
The record distrust in the media, based on a survey conducted Sept. 6-9, 2012, also means that negativity toward the media is at an all-time high for a presidential election year. This reflects the continuation of a pattern in which negativity increases every election year compared with the year prior. The current gap between negative and positive views — 20 percentage points — is by far the highest Gallup has recorded since it began regularly asking the question in the 1990s. Trust in the media was much higher, and more positive than negative, in the years prior to 2004 — as high as 72% when Gallup asked this question three times in the 1970s.
I bolded that bit because, for me, that’s the heart of the public’s disgust with the MBM. In 2008, you could see (if you were looking) the MBM’s influence in the Presidential campaign. They fell, wholesale, for the Unicorn King’s hagiography, and did little or no vetting of the then-Democrat candidate. At the same time, they went completely nuts tearing apart Republican VP candidate Sarah Palin’s life, continuing to harass the former governor of Alaska long after the election had been decided.
Go back to 2004 and you’ll remember Gunga Dan Rather’s ham-fisted attempt to sway the election by running with fraudulent documents, in a last ditch effort to smear President Bush. The MBM bought Danny Boy’s story hook, line and sinker; it took bloggers to blow that bullshit apart to the point where the MBM couldn’t ignore it. Ditto 1998: “Monicagate”; the MBM were all too ready to bury the story, until Drudge blew the Narrative to Kingdom Come….
This week, the Washington Examiner released a multi-part report on The Chosen One: “The Obama You Don’t Know” which the MBM has, so far, studiously ignored. You’d think they should have learned by now; you’d be wrong. The reason for this is simple: NARRATIVE ÜBER ALLES.
The MBM’s Narrative is simple, and little changed since… oh, I don’t know; August 9, 1974? They are, collectively, the media arm of the Democrat Party, and this year, they ain’t even trying to hide it. Every single Republican candidate since Nixon was chased out of the Oval Office has been presented as:
- a bumbling, stumbing klutz (Ford);
- a scary, out of touch old man who’ll start World War Three (Reagan);
- an out-of-touch, economically illiterate, elitist snob (Bush I);
- a privileged, buffoonish scion of a politically connected family (Bush II)
Today, though, the MBM is facing a dilemma too similar to the Carter/Reagan campaign of 1979-80 (including Three Mile Island acting up). By any rational standard, Barack Hussein Obama’s presidency should be considered a complete and utter disaster, akin to the Peanut Farmer’s tenure. Whether domestically, or in foreign policy, the “Obama Agenda” lies in tatters. So what do we get from the MBM in the guise of “reporting” going into the final weeks of the 2012 Presidential campaign?
That’s all Romney’s “47%” video clip was; a shiny squirrel, meant to distract readers and viewers from what’s really going on in their world:
- Obama’s Shaky Libya Narrative – The Daily Beast.
- PJ Media » The Democrats’ False Narrative on the Auto Industry.
- Obama’s embassy cover story dissolves – The Washington Post.
- PJ Media » IG Report on Fast and Furious Leaves Biggest Questions Unanswered.
- The DOJ/Media Matters Conspiracy.
- Fast And Furious Report Slammed By Slain Border Agent’s Parents.
- WHOREGATE! : The ineffably brutal Stacy McCain.
Please note: this is an incomplete list. This is just the recent bullshit.
Back in 1972, Woodward and Bernstein set off a media feeding frenzy that chased a corrupt President and his equally corrupt administrative lackeys out of office, and in some cases into federal prisons. But now? Now these MBM scumbags couldn’t give a shit about the level of lawless corruption this Chicago ‘Gangster Government‘ operates under, because they are completely in the tank. But the MBM have a huge problem, and they don’t even realize it….
We don’t give a fuck about you tools anymore. Your Narrative pretty much “works” only in your little Beltway-centric world. Nobody gives a shit about Mittens’ “47%” line, because most people don’t consider themselves IN that 47%, you assholes.
Finally, here’s something I want you assholes to answer, when you try using transient, “American Idol” styled polling to predict November’s winner:
Do you believe anyone “liked” Nixon better than George McGovern in 1972?
A preference cascade is gonna crash on your collective skulls in November, and there ain’t jack shit you can do about it.
