If you follow the news, it seems the implosion of the Obama administration’s foreign policy, and the growing anti-American hostilities in Muslim countries in North Africa, Pakistan, and across the Middle East has suddenly ceased, because last night, Mother Jones released something shiny:
During a private fundraiser earlier this year, Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney told a small group of wealthy contributors what he truly thinks of all the voters who support President Barack Obama. He dismissed these Americans as freeloaders who pay no taxes, who don’t assume responsibility for their lives, and who think government should take care of them. Fielding a question from a donor about how he could triumph in November, Romney replied:
At Memorandum, the Make Believe Media (MBM) are wetting themselves….
As the Firefox script shows, left-leaning websites are all over these truncated (MJ’s David Corn promises he has more) cell phone clips. I should (but won’t) update the screen grab, because I just took a look, and the dogpile has grown. The
spinning analysis of the ramifications of the clips on Romney’s candidacy is coming fast and furious, with many members of the MBM deciding this video release is a game-breaker; a blow Mittens’ campaign cannot possibly recover from….
I’m surprised Oliver Wendell Donut and the MediaMatters guys haven’t yet weighed in to tell the MSLSD drones what to believe in regard to the Unicorn King.
Ace calls this kind of shit wishcasting. Cap’n Ed ain’t buying it, noting “This instant-toast analysis is the product of a media with too much pressure to be profound and not enough perspective to resist it.” I tend to agree. The MBM could never defend Obama’s domestic policies, and now, literally, his foreign policy is collapsing in flames, so there is only one thing left (which I figured would be Chicago’s central focus anyway, because that just how ObamaCo rolls)…. Destroy Mitt.
Bloomberg’s Josh Barro, “Today, Mitt Romney Lost the Election“:
This is an utter disaster for Romney.
Romney already has trouble relating to the public and convincing people he cares about them. Now, he’s been caught on video saying that nearly half the country consists of hopeless losers.
The NY Times’ “oh so civil” resident
conservative jackhole, Dave “Pants Crease” Brooks, in a piece titled, “Thurston Howell Romney,” opining on the video’s “meaning”:
First, it suggests that he really doesn’t know much about the country he inhabits. Who are these freeloaders? Is it the Iraq war veteran who goes to the V.A.? Is it the student getting a loan to go to college? Is it the retiree on Social Security or Medicare?
Last night, on NRO’s “Corner”, Jonah Goldberg, noting the Twitter explosion that followed the clip’s release, wrote “… you’d think Mother Jones had just found video of Mitt Romney strangling a hooker with her own pantyhose.” He went on to compare/contrast Mittens’ perceived gaffe with this blast from the past:
Personally, I found Obama’s unguarded, off the cuff remarks at his 2008 fundraiser far more insightful, and said so way back then:
Now, after watching the storm of coverage, lost in all the spin is something I found obvious. Ripping off MLK, I say judge Barry by the content of his character when trying to glean where his “understanding” of those small town folks comes from: twenty years in a pew at Pastor Wright’s church. Remember, when that bomb blew up Barry said this guy was who gave him his understanding of faith, so he could not possibly turn his back to the man who “brought him to Jesus.” So anytime Barry and “faith” are in the same sentence, whether in reference to his–or some Pennsy gun-toting, God fearing hillbillies–you really have to understand his working definition of what “faith” is….
What Mittens said was, in comparison, fairly benign. His inner number cruncher reeled off some statistics, then gave his interpretation of what he believed those numbers mean, electorally speaking, in terms tailored to push the buttons of his donors. He–rightly–said there is little chance he can convince that chunk of the public to abandon teh Unicorn King, so courting them makes little sense… which, nearly a year ago, is exactly what Obama’s campaign determined when it came to appealing to people like… well, me, and decided they weren’t going to even try:
‘All pretense of trying to win a majority of the white working class has been effectively jettisoned in favor of cementing a center-left coalition made up, on the one hand, of voters who have gotten ahead on the basis of educational attainment… and a second, substantial constituency of lower-income voters who are disproportionately African-American and Hispanic,’ longtime political reporter Thomas B. Edsall wrote in an opinion piece in the New York Times.
Unfortunately, this is how The Narrative™ works when the MBM herd spots a squirrel. Everything that happened–or, in the case of the anti-American Islamic ragefest, is still happening–is dropped down the Memory Hole, to address the newly discovered “OMG!” morsels to be chewed over (and over, and over) with reckless glee in defense teh Unicorn King. Over at Reason, The Jacket weighed in on this MBM-fueled clusterfuck with “Secret Romney Tape Means We Can Finally Stop Talking About Obama’s Failed Foreign & Domestic Policy!“
Personally, I don’t know anyone who will or would give a goddamn shit about what Mittens says in any of these clips. Giving them ‘legs’ could actually blow back in Mother Jones’s (and the MBM’s) face… stranger shit has happened in the 24/7 news cycle world.
But then, I don’t personally know any of these MBM assholes, and I’ve never heard a dog whistle in my whole damn life…..
