TC…count my vote in the “with it” column, m’kay?

Those kids in the video were extremely well-behaved, well-spoken and hit the balls right out of the park. (Although I am somewhat surprised they didn’t kick that little prick’s balls up into his throat.)

What’s happened in Iraq (and I’ll leave ‘the ‘Stan’ out of it at this point) has been a comedy of errors but also shown a steady stream of success stories (thousand points of light as George the First would say). I have no doubt that Iraq’s better off for us having been there, but the spark of Democracy and Freedom better take hold soon or we are going to pull out on them. We can help indefinitely, but the complaint and underlying current I’ve heard is that the Iraqis do resent us as an occupation force to some extent. I think Bush’s got it right when he says we’ll stand down when they stand up. We just need to give Mr. Maliki a swift kick to get him to find some backbone and figure out a way to start from scratch.

I tend to believe that the way to “fix” the situation is a complete and total ban on weapons of any kind by citizens. Yes, this is a house to house ‘bullet launcher (or more)’ grab. People might giggle about Americans and their Second Amendment rights when discussing whether or not average citizens have the right/need to keep and bear fully automatic weapons in their homes. Turn that right around…do we really think that the average Iraqi has a need for an RPG, 152 mm arty shell, 100 cell phones or 25 garage door openers? No, neither do I. If at a later point the populace shows some responsibility…then perhaps we can look at loosening the ban on privately owned weapons…but at this point they really only belong in the hands of the Army, police and criminals.

NOW, we can start talking about the final push to close the chapter on Operation Iraqi Freedom.

See you on the high ground!

P.S.: I’m also a very firm believer that the US military is not a “Team American: World Police” force. They are the final resort to America’s diplomatic efforts. They should NOT be handing out food to refugees or standing between warring factions. That’s what the Peace Corps and UN suck down billions a year allegedly doing.
