(Update: Welcome, all LC’s of Emperor Misha!)
Okay, at this point, I’m just pouring gasoline on a house that’s already on fire, or pissing on a brokedown hobo while he lies face down in his own vomit in a ditch, or kicking a cripple whose crutches are busted, or…well, you be the judge.
Today the St. Paul Pioneer Press (annoying registration/BugMeNot req’d), the Minnesota newspaper that isn’t editorially occupied by patently insane delusionalists, takes a look back at the first year (plus a couple months) of the netlet’s existence: Air America Radio is stuck in the ratings cellar. The reporterette elicited this tidbit from Michael Harrison, editor and publisher of the trade publication Talkers magazine:
“Is Al Franken going to be the hottest thing in radio? I don’t think so,” Harrison said. “But it’s too soon to say he’s finished. A lot depends on how dedicated he is to the show.
“And I get the feeling he’s not dedicated to radio broadcasting. He’s dedicated to politics and his own celebrity. I think he’ll drop out to run for office.”
Hmmm…that sounds familiar…where have I heard that before?
Oh yeah. Here.
Since he’s announced he’s bought a residence in Minnesota, and is moving his broadcast there in 2006, I’d say it’s a holy lock he’s doing so strictly to run for the U.S. Senate. And on the day he announces, Air Idiot will be forced to pull him off the airwaves, or provide “in kind” airtime to any and all opponents–which’ll never happen; there’d be an insurrection in their offices and among their listeners.
So what happens to the netlet when their “flagship” broadcast goes dark? Actually, the way the charity scam is escalating, that question may soon be moot.
UPDATE: The “Save Air America Idiot Telethon” is on the air.
UPDATE : There’s something that’s bugging me. Okay, if Piquant did this “forensic accounting” one would assume it was back in early ’04, when they shuffled the deck, showed Cohen, Mark Walsh and that Sorenson fellow the door, and Piquant took over title to the netlet. And then did nothing until the DOI hammer fell on Gloria Wise’s corrupt financial shenanigans now, a year later.
Everyone who was paying attention back then were wondering what “assets” Progressive handed over when enacting the sale to Piquant…was part of those “assets” bank accounts? Because Progressive owned no stations or anything resembling an infrastructure; they rented their NY headquarters from WLIB’s owners and it seemed all they “possessed” was nothing more than a much publicized pile of debts owed to some angry creditors like Arthur Liu from Multicultural Radio, who had kicked them off the air from his LA and Chicago stations for bouncing checks, and employees like Franken who were getting stiffed on the paychecks.
I can’t believe this thing hasn’t blown up in their faces yet. Spitzer is running for governor; hammering these clowns offers him all sorts of good will from anti-Franken & Co. right leaning New Yorkers.
Where’s that media hound in all this?
